This Rotary Year, District 9213 will focus on the Basic Education and Literacy Enhancement Program (BELEP) under the theme,” Enhance Literacy – Make Reading a Way of life.” The project seeks to enhance literacy by making reading a way of life, empower teachers to deliver quality basic education, increase access to basic education, and influence policy.
Achievements so far:
- Over 100 Rotary Cubs engaged in BELEP projects, starting with the participation in the D.E.A.R Day (Drop Everything and Read) on 1 st July 2022. Over 35,000 learners were reached.
- A total of 10,000 textbooks were donated by Rotarians to Early Childhood Development (ECD) centers and primary schools.
- Over 500 schools have started participating in literacy retention activities.
- Synergies are created by authors, trainers, civil society, and the Ministry of Education and Sports (MoES).
