Rotary’s efforts to improve maternal and child health in Uganda have received a major boost following the launch of a three-year, UGX 600 million partnership between Mama Toto Care Uganda and Stanbic Bank Uganda.
Launched on Thursday, 20 August 2026, the partnership will see Stanbic Bank provide UGX 200 million annually for three years to strengthen maternal and child health interventions across the country.
The investment will support health-systems strengthening and community engagement, with a focus on increasing informed demand for and uptake of quality, facility-based maternal and newborn health services, particularly in overstretched health facilities.
The partnership builds on Rotary’s ongoing work through the Empowering Families, Growing Futures Rotary Foundation Global Grant, which is already supporting interventions aimed at improving maternal and child health outcomes.
Speaking at the launch, partners highlighted the importance of bringing communities, health facilities and other stakeholders together to address preventable maternal and newborn deaths.
The Ministry of Health has joined the partnership as a technical partner, providing guidance to ensure that the investment targets areas of greatest need and remains aligned with Uganda’s national maternal and newborn health priorities.
For Rotary, the partnership represents another step towards strengthening the systems and community action needed to ensure that mothers receive timely, quality care before, during and after childbirth.
The partners envision a Uganda where Rotary, Government and the private sector work together to prevent avoidable deaths and ensure that bringing a new life into the world does not put a mother or child at unnecessary risk.
The UGX 600 million investment is expected to strengthen ongoing interventions and expand their reach, particularly in communities served by health facilities facing significant pressure from growing demand.
