Rotary District 9213 Governor Gerald Obai joined government and other stakeholders in committing Rotary’s support to Uganda’s upcoming Measles-Rubella (MR) vaccination campaign**, scheduled for 1–5 October 2026.
Speaking at a high-level stakeholder sensitization meeting convened by the Ministry of Health, Governor Obai pledged to mobilise community leaders and trusted networks within Rotary’s reach to share accurate health information and encourage parents and caregivers to have eligible children vaccinated.
“We will utilise community leaders and trusted networks to share accurate health information,” Governor Obai said.
The campaign targets all children aged 9 months to 5 years, with stakeholders calling for coordinated action to ensure every eligible child is reached and protected.
Rotary D9213’s commitment builds on its longstanding role in supporting immunisation and public health in Uganda.
Rotary has been a key partner in the global effort to eradicate polio supporting vaccination, community mobilisation and advocacy.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Rotary also worked alongside government and health partners as a community mobilisation partner, helping share accurate health information and promote uptake of public health measures.
Prof. Charles Olaro, Director General of Health Services, urged all stakeholders to work together to ensure every eligible child is reached and protected during the campaign, while strengthening Uganda’s immunisation systems and sustainable financing for future generations.
The half-day engagement brought together officials from the Ministry of Health, health professional associations, Members of Parliament, cultural and religious leaders from Busoga and Buganda Kingdoms, civil society, Rotary Uganda and UN partners.
Through its extensive network of clubs and community leaders, Rotary will support efforts to build trust, counter misinformation and connect families with accurate information on vaccination.
